(Image:Garrett Lau)When I got word of the accident late last night, it didn't hit me that it was someone I knew. Our cycling community is small enough to allow us to get to "know" each other in some way.
This past January I got to get to know Kristy a little bit. After watching her ride away from the women's field in the EB's for the win, I congratulated her and we got to talking. I learned about her background in triathlon and she talked about how excited she was to be racing this year. Her talent was obvious and it was clear that she was just passing through on her way to bigger things in the sport.
My condolences go out to the friends and family of Kristy and Matt and the other riders injured in yesterday's tragic accident.
